Skahle: you can put the cutoff switch on either end of the pack. As long as it's in the main current path it will work. [edit: like Travis said]

Doesn't matter which side you disconnect as long as it disconnects the pack current. Either is fine, although some contactors and cutoff's are polarity

You should use a diode on the contactor, it's there to protect the driver from damage, this case, the driver is the DC-DC. It can cause a huge voltage
